Developments in Switzerland have prompted the public health authorities to take new actions to fight against the Covid-19 pandemic and, as a result, the Swiss Confederation has declared a "state of necessity". In concrete terms this means that all non-essential activities have to cease in Switzerland. Bars, restaurants and discos must keep their doors closed and only food shops and pharmacies are allowed to open. All schools, gymnasiums and universities are closed until at least the end of April and will continue dispensing teaching, although trough a different form.
The UNIL Authority decided to continue providing all distance learning for several weeks and even likely for the whole semester. All study and professional trips are suspended.
In this climate of uncertainty and due to organisational problems, particularly with regard to visas or customs clearance, the organising committee of the SUR programme and the Director of the School of Biology have taken the difficult but sensible decision to cancel the SUR 2020 programme.
We are as saddened by this decision but the most important thing now is to stop the spread of covid.
All best wishes from Lausanne and take care,
