Dr J. Simon Rofe is Reader in Diplomatic and International Studies in the Centre for International Studies and Diplomacy, at SOAS University of London: he is the School’sHead of Digital Learning and Programme Director for the MA Global Diplomacy, following a role in the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games (LOCOG) in 2012.
Simon Rofe co-founded the field of Sports Diplomacy, through his scholarship, working with others and particularly practitioners. He has shared counsel with numerous national and international bodies, governments and other stakeholders such as Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Embassies, Sports National Governing Bodies, International Sporting Federations, National Olympic Committees, Anti-Doping Organisations, global media organisations and athlete advocacy organisations.
He is the author and editor of a numerous books and articles including: “The Untold Story of FIFA’s Diplomacy and the 1966 World Cup: North Korea, Africa and Sir Stanly Rous”, The International History Review, 2019; Sport and Diplomacy: Games within Games (Manchester: Manchester University Press, 2018); “Sport and Diplomacy: A Global Diplomacy Framework.” Diplomacy and Statecraft, 2016; and “It is a squad game: Manchester United as a diplomatic non-state actor in international affairs.”Sport in Society, 2014.
Dr. J. Simon Rofe est professeur d’études diplomatiques et internationales au Centre d’études internationales et de diplomatie de l’Université SOAS de Londres. Il y est directeur de la formation digitale et directeur du programme de master en Diplomatie Globale, ceci après avoir occupé un poste au sein du Comité d'organisation des Jeux Olympiques de Londres (LOCOG) en 2012.
En collaboration avec de nombreux collègues, notamment des praticiens, et grâce à une bourse, Simon Rofe a fondé le champ d'étude de la diplomatie sportive. Il a ainsi conseillé de nombreux organismes nationaux et internationaux, des gouvernements et d’autres intervenants tels que des ministères des affaires étrangères, des ambassades, des organes directeurs nationaux des sports, des fédérations sportives internationales, des comités nationaux olympiques, des organisations antidopage, des organisations médiatiques mondiales et des organisations de défense des sportifs.
