In Science and Technology Studies, epigenetics and microbiomics are archetypal post-genomic sciences as their research agendas deal with the effects of material, social and ecological environments of life over biology, development and health.
In this seminar, we draw from the fieldwork ongoing within the Swiss National Science Foundation Ambizione project "Constructing the Biosocial” hosted at the STS Lab of UNIL. We describe how scientists navigate the uncertainties, constraints and tensions of post-genomics sciences; that is, how challenging are their attempts to transform genomic research infrastructures into complex (i.e. dynamic, non-gene-centric and environmentally embedded) post-genomic research pipelines.
Genomics, many have argued, was a victim of its premises and promises. Will post-genomic attempts at overcoming it – each with its own unique challenges and specificities – succeed to entertain an open, plastic, reactive, environmentally embedded view of biology?
