🌍 Driving Local Solutions with a Global Vision: ECCE at the Forefront of Climate Research 🌊
The International Workshop on Flood Risk and Climate Change, this year hosted at Indian Institute of Technology, Madras in Chennai, India, was a landmark event—and ECCE is proud to have been part of it!
A huge shoutout to Amrie Singh, one of the brilliant organizers and a valued member of ECCE, for shaping this workshop into a dynamic, action-oriented platform. This event exemplifies ECCE’s commitment to conducting globally relevant research that empowers local stakeholders worldwide to tackle climate challenges.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all our collaborators who dedicated their time and expertise to make this workshop a success:
- Dr. Sreeparvathy Vijay, our local host at IIT Madras
- Dr. Gabriela Lopez-Gonzalez, head of water@leeds at the University of Leeds
- Dr. Maria Pregnolato from Delft University of Technology
- Professor Nigel Wright at the University of Birmingham
This first workshop in a series of five brought together diverse participants, from community leaders to policymakers, to:
1️⃣ Identify key flood risks
2️⃣ Develop collaborative strategies with resource allocation exercises
3️⃣ Invest in practical solutions using a gamified approach
By centering discussions on local needs and leveraging a participatory framework, the workshop underscored how innovation and community engagement go hand in hand. The room was brimming with energy—not only from academics but mostly from real-world stakeholders, working together for actionable outcomes.
Testifying to the international scope of this workshop, we are excited to announce that the next workshop in the series will be Mexico, 2025.
Stay tuned as ECCE continues to drive impactful climate solutions by communicating climate research to local stakeholders.
