Female Career Award HEC Lausanne (UNIL) Ceremony & Conference

Launched in 2018 on the initiative of the Equal Opportunity Committee of HEC Lausanne, the Female Career Award honours twice a year an outstanding female academic career outside HEC. Winner of the 2nd edition 2018, Mikki Hebl, Professor at Rice University, will give a lecture on "Gender and Race Gatekeeping" as part of the 27th September award ceremony.

More about Prof. Mikki Hebl's research and conference

In this talk, Dr. Hebl will address the impact that gatekeeping can have on preventing certain individuals (often stigmatized) from reaching the highest levels of the workplace and society despite the fact that they are profoundly qualified. Dr. Hebl will review her research showing how pervasive such gatekeeping is and that it is not just reflected in overt types of discrimination, but also in more subtle behaviors as well. After presenting on recent research on discrimination, this talk will then move into a discussion of the types of strategies and behaviors that individuals and organizations should adopt to best do his/her own part in reducing the gatekeeping, biased social processing, and discriminatory behaviors.
