This presentation is part of my research result from my last field visit in Febuary. Azheke village, one of the best preserved village within the World Heritage site of Hani Rice Terraces, is undergoing rapid change in the past ten years. Heritage entitles the place with a symbolic capital that can be mobilzed by different stakeholders by different agendas, and the village turns from a place of living to a place of consumption through tourism development.

The research is seeking answers to two questions:

1. How does the materiality of the village transform through heritage and tourism development?

2. How do different stakeholders co-construct the place (the values, capitals, practices and negotiatons)?
