La conférence

Geoheritage assessment uses different tools, methods and approaches. In this conference two different experiences are discussed. In the first part, numerical methods for quantifying the diversity of landforms and physical landscape are described. In particular a geomorphodiversity Index is proposed with the aim to highlight the key role of digital terrain data in geoheritage analysis.

In the second part, the recognition and promotion of geoheritage in urban areas are discussed, describing the case histories of several cities in central Italy. Two experiences of dissemination are proposed. The first is a geological exhibition held in 2017 in Perugia, focusing on the different employed methods and tools (ARSandbox, 3D printing, drones and DEMs). The second is a mobile application (HUSH – Hiking in Urban Scientific Heritage) for the geological and naturalistic heritage in urban areas, exploiting the Augmented Reality and digital data.

La conférencière

Laura Melelli is Research Scientist in Geomorphology at Department of Physics and Geology, University of Perugia (IT). Her major research topics are the integration of conventional geomorphologic approaches with GIS and Remote Sensing tools, to develop quantitative studies of landscape evolution. She authored over fifty articles and book chapters both in national and international journals. She was Principal Investigator and Coordinator of several research projects focused on applied geomorphology, cultural heritage preservation and promotion, and digital cartography.
