Welcome to the next event of the 2024 Seminar Series of the Expertise Center for Climate Extremes (ECCE)! You can attend it in person on the UNIL campus or online.
Estimating precipitation at different temporal scales remains challenging in ungauged mountainous areas. Stations are primarily situated in valleys. The weak instrumentation of the most elevated regions can only be supplemented by other sources of information, e.g. radar, satellite, and simulations from climate models. This seminar presents the results of different studies that intend to characterize various aspects of the spatial variability of precipitation in mountainous areas: comparison of precipitation reanalysis for hydrological applications, precipitation lapse rates at a seasonal scale, interpolation of daily precipitation, and past observed trends. We look forward to seeing many of you on this occasion.
