At the centre of Lausanne 2020

UNIL is honoured to welcome the 2020 Youth Olympic Games.

The Olympic village is located on the Dorigny campus, which will provide accommodation for over 1,800 athletes and their entourage. After Lausanne 2020, the Vortex building that was built for the event will accommodate over 1,000 students and academic guests on a single site.

The campus will also run « Welcome Sessions » for the athletes selected and host the first visit by the Heads of Mission of the National Olympic Committees.

Apart from the infrastructure provided by the university, UNIL researchers and experts will be closely involved in the event. First, by contributing to the educational programme for athletes in the Olympic villages. But also through a programme of academic lectures and conferences, including the following :

  • Congress of the European Committee for Sport History, 12-14 September 2019
  • Brain training in sport performance lectures, from September to December 2019
  • Youth and Winter Sports conference, 7-8 January 2020

UNIL is also involved in the City of Lausanne’s sporting and cultural programme, playing an active part in the « E-Sport » exhibition at Espace Arlaud (Place de la Riponne in Lausanne).

Numerous UNIL alumni are also involved in organising the Games, as part of the organising committee, working with the City of Lausanne or simply as volunteers.
