Prof. Gentner has also been appointed Deputy physician of the Service of immuno-oncology, a role which he assumes on a 30% basis, in conjunction with his activities within Hi-TIDe.

The research objective of Prof. Gentner's group is the advanced application of genetic engineering of haematopoietic stem cells for the development of innovative cell-based cancer therapies. This strategy aims to create synergies between artificial hematopoiesis and adoptive T-cell therapies.

Trained at the universities of Heidelberg and Erlangen (Germany), as well as at the MD Anderson Cancer Center and Baylor College of Medicine (USA), in 2006 Bernhard Gentner joined the San Raffaele-Telethon Institute for Gene Therapy (Italy) as a clinician scientist. He has been responsible for the translation of several gene therapy studies from the bench to the bedside. Professor Gentner has earned numerous prestigious awards, including the Young Investigator Award from the European Society of Gene and Cell Therapy, and has published more than 60 publications.

The management of the Department of oncology extends a warm welcome to Prof. Gentner and looks forward to the support of his expertise.
