Fernanda Herrera awarded a Fondazione San Salvatore grant

The funding will support Dr Herrera's laboratory in elucidating the molecular mechanisms by which ionizing radiation modulates tumor immunogenicity, to develop immunotherapy-based combinatorial strategies.

Published on 16 Dec 2022

Dr Fernanda Herrera's lab works to identify new mechanisms by which ionizing radiation affects the genomic make-up of ovarian tumors, which can then be harnessed with new immunotherapy combinations. Ovarian cancer has one of the poorest prognoses and primary resistance to immunotherapy due to a lack of T cells in the tumor microenvironment. Ovarian cancers are distinguished by the widespread presence of TP53 mutations and genomic instability. This latest funding from Fondazione San Salvatore will help researchers achieve their goal of using radiation to successfully boost T cell function and enable immunotherapy.
