How will the salary scales be adjusted in 2024?
Indexation of salaries to the cost of living
On 13 November 2023, the Vaud Cantonal Government announced that it was adjusting the salary scale to the cost of living, by indexing civil service and parapublic sector salaries by 0.2% and then successively by 1.7% from 1 January 2024.
On 24 April 2024, the SNF decided to increase the upper limit of the salary bands to enable universities to compensate for inflation. For current projects, the measure will come into force retroactively on 1 January 2024, although the SNF expects salary increases to be covered within the overall budgets already allocated.
What does this mean in practice?
The Rectorate of UNIL has therefore decided to, in compliance with the principle of equal pay, that the terms and conditions for compensating for inflation on 1 January 2024 for EF/SNF doctoral candidates and junior and senior SNF researchers would be as follows:
This indexation will be applied at the time of the June salary payment, retroactive to 1 January 2024 for doctoral students and researchers under contract with UNIL on 1 June 2024.
