We are delighted to announce that IRIS, the new research information system at the University of Lausanne, has reached a major milestone with the release of its read-only beta version. This milestone marks the start of a crucial phase in the project to replace Serval, while continuing to improve and expand the platform's functionality.

Why a beta version?

Although the current version of IRIS is already functional, it remains in beta phase as further developments are underway. The aim is to gradually add key functionalities, such as data entry, while ensuring a smooth transition from Serval to IRIS. Adjustments may therefore be necessary along the way, but this phase is already enabling us to use the new system to explore its capabilities and potential.

Which entities are included?

With this beta version, four main entities are now available in IRIS:

  • People: integrating researcher profiles.
  • Units: grouping together the various UNIL research units.
  • Publications: researchers' scientific publications.
  • Journals: integration of associated scientific journals (title database).

These entities form the basis of the system, and others will be added in the next stages of the program.

What about publications?

Although publications continue to be entered in Serval for the time being, they are synchronized with IRIS - barring unforeseen circumstances - on a daily basis. This process ensures consistency between the two systems during the transition phase.

What happens next?

The next key milestone will be the activation of data entry directly into IRIS and the decommissioning of Serval, followed by the gradual addition of other entities to the system, in line with the program schedule.
