Candidates have a choice between :
- The UNIL programme in the field of medicine, life sciences and other disciplines within the competence of the FBM; the doctorate in medicine and life sciences (MD-PhD) is awarded by the UNIL upon recommendation from its Faculty of Biology and Medicine.
- The EPFL programme in the field of cellular and molecular biology, biotechnology, neurosciences, biomedical engineering and other disciplines of competence of the EPFL; the doctorate in medicine and sciences (MD-PhD) is granted jointly by the UNIL and the EPFL.
After successfully completing their final medical exams, the candidates begin their MD-PhD doctoral training by registering at the UNIL or the EPFL, according to the regulations of each institution.
The candidates registered at either UNIL or EPFL benefit from the
same teaching and infrastructure.
