Conférence de l'IUFRS - Dre Marilyn Hammer - The Application of Precision Health in Practice
Dre Marilyn J Hammer is the Director of the Phyllis F. Cantor Center for Research in Nursing and Patient Care Services at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Her program of research is dedicated to precision health symptom science with the goals of understanding interindividual differences in symptom experiences.
The Application of Precision Health in Practice
Precision health focuses on individual genetic, lifestyle, behaviors, and environmental factors that influence individuals’ health/illness continuum across the age span. The four focal areas often used in practice include personalization, prevention, prediction, and participation. The personalized component includes the individual characteristics that influence health and disease and approaches to tailored interventions. The preventive component focuses on health behaviors for health promotion and disease prevention. The predictive component targets factors that can help determine who is at greatest risk for disease or for those with a disease, poorer outcomes. The participatory component involves the individuals themselves, their family members, and their communities. Including patient reported outcome measures is an important part of precision health. Implemented successfully, health care clinicians can support patients in optimizing healthy well-being.
The conference will be held in English with a time for discussion in French.

Marilyn Hammer is the Director of the Phyllis F. Cantor Center for Research in Nursing and Patient Care Services at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Her program of research is dedicated to precision health symptom science with the goals of understanding interindividual differences in symptom experiences and identifying biomarkers associated with worse symptom profiles. Long-term goals include developing symptom screening tools and identifying targets for tailored interventions. Dr. Hammer is a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing, the New York Academy of Medicine, and the Royal Society of Medicine.
