University of Lausanne cannot be held liable for the accuracy, exactitude, currentness, reliability or integrity
of such information.

websites, withdraw them, or temporarily suspend their availability, at any time and without notice.
The University of Lausanne shall not be liable for any material or consequential damage caused by access to

University of Lausanne privacy policy
The University of Lausanne is committed to the privacy of individuals whose personal data are processed at one
time or another for the purpose of their relationship with the University.
Article 15 of the Constitution of the Canton of Vaud (Cst-VD ; BLV 101.01) and the cantonal Act of 11 September
2007 on personal data
protection (LPrD ; BLV 172.65) provide that everyone has the right to protection of their privacy and to be
protected from unlawful use of their personal data.
The University of Lausanne complies with these requirements in its capacity as a processor.
This policy concerns the processing of your data collected as a user of the website www.unil.ch
or as a student. If you are a member of staff of the University
of Lausanne, please refer to the current Notice regarding the processing of your personal data.
This policy is dated May 19, 2020. However, it is likely to be updated on a regular
basis; if so, you will be informed via the website www.unil.ch.
Any use of our
services after this notification has been published will be deemed acceptance of the latest version of this
policy. Only the French version of this policy shall be deemed authoritative.

1. What is meant by personal data?
Personal data are any data that can be used to identify an individual. These data may be able to identify you
directly (for example, your last name and first name, e-mail address or OASI (Old Age and Survivors'
Insurance)
number or indirectly, by cross-referencing various kinds of information about you (for example, your computer's
IP address, your credit card number or your phone number).

The processing of your data indicated above is necessary to fulfil the public duties incumbent on the University
of Lausanne (for example, the registration procedure, grant applications, examinations or award of
qualifications) or is based on your consent to process your request (such as for careers guidance services,
special activities such as those provided by the sports or language centres, your registration for events or an
application for a parking permit).
We also collect other types of data when you view our web pages, as indicated under "7. Use of cookies".

3. With whom do we share your data?
The data you communicate to us may be shared between the various departments and faculties of the University of
Lausanne so that we can fulfil the objectives indicated above and meet your expectations. In this respect, we
may also share your data with partners involved in the delivery of our various missions and activities (such as
public or private partner academic institutions, in Switzerland and abroad, and IT or catering service
providers).
The University of Lausanne may also be required to disclose your data in order to fulfil its statutory
obligations, in response to a request from a judicial or administrative authority or in accordance with its
statutory obligations or in relation to legal proceedings.
Your data will not be sold to third parties under any circumstances, and in particular, for marketing or
promotional purposes.
4. Are your data likely to be transferred abroad?
The majority of the data collected by the University of Lausanne are hosted on our servers or, if we are working
with an external partner who is required to process your data, within the European Economic Area (EEA).
If, however, your data are processed outside the EEA, which may be the case depending on the institutional
partner concerned, for example in the United States, we ensure that your data are transferred lawfully, either
by obtaining your explicit consent or by other means (such as an assurance that the body concerned is covered by
Privacy Shield or by entering into a standard contractual agreement covering this area).
5. How does the University of Lausanne protect your data?
We do our utmost to ensure the security of your data and avoid any inappropriate access, use, modification or
disclosure of your personal information. Our websites use SSL certificates authenticated by a third party to
guarantee the confidentiality of the data exchanged, in particular during the delivery of an online service.
These certificates also provide a means of checking that your computer is communicating correctly with the
University of Lausanne's server.
We also do our utmost to ensure that any third party to whom your data are communicated (as described above)
process them securely to ensure their confidentiality and integrity.
In spite of all these efforts, it is impossible to guarantee complete security for information shared over the
internet. The University of Lausanne cannot be held liable in respect of the data you communicate to it.
6. What are your rights in relation to data processing?
In accordance with Article 25 LPrD, anyone may ask the University of Lausanne to see the data it holds on them
and, if necessary, request that they are updated, rectified or erased.
Any requests of this kind should be sent:
- either to the Dean's office of the Faculty to which you are attached (or were previously attached when
you
were a student);
- or to the university department relevant to your request.

7. Use of cookies
You will see a message about the use of cookies at the bottom of the screen the first time you visit the
University of Lausanne's website. A cookie will then be stored on your device so that your browser knows
that
you have seen the message and does not display it again on your next visit.
You can choose whether to accept or manage the use of cookies for statistical purposes when browsing this site.
These cookies are used to analyse how often users of the website visit it and how they use it, to continuously
improve its ease of use and the relevance of the content offered.
1. Visit statistics
The web server only records usage data to generate statistical trends, which we use to improve our services (log
files). This site uses four statistical tools:
- Google
Analytics, a website
analytics service provided by Google Inc;
- Google Tag Manager, a tag management tool developed by Google Inc;
- AWStats, a website analytics application installed on servers belonging to the University of Lausanne;
- Hotjar,
an internet use behavioural
analysis tool
These tools use cookies, which are text files placed on your computer to help the website analyse how users
interact with it. The data produced by cookies relating to your use of the site (including your IP address,
which is truncated in our Google Analytics records) are transferred and stored on servers located in the United
States for Google and at the University of Lausanne for AWStats. The data concerned are your IP address,
geographical location, the date and length of your visit, the pages viewed and page sequences. This information
is used to analyse your use of the website, compile reports on site activity for its publisher and provide other
services relating to site activity and use of the internet. Google may communicate these data to third parties
where there is a statutory obligation to do so or when third parties process these data on their own behalf, in
particular the publisher of the site. They will not cross-reference your IP address with any other data they
hold. Moreover, Google is part of the "Privacy Shield" legal framework covering relationships between
Switzerland and the USA in relation to data protection. Finally, Google anonymises your IP address before it
saves it.

prevent you from using certain functionalities on the site. Depending on the browser you use, you can also opt
out of Google Analytics by installing a plug-in for
your browser. You can also opt

All cookies used by University of Lausanne expire when your session ends. Third-party cookies, such as Google
Analytics, may remain
for up to a week, after which they are automatically deleted. You may delete cookies at any time before this
period expires by selecting the "delete/remove cookies" option in your browser settings. Next time you

2. Third-party cookies
Twitter, YouTube, Issuu and other tools generated by third parties may install cookies to share content on
third-party tools or to compile usage statistics. The presence, number and status of cookies may depend on how
