The Students Evaluation of Teaching is a valid and trustworthy tool to obtain information about how teachings work. This process is part of the will to:
The SET has a formative purpose.
From its beginning, the students evaluation of teaching process has been based on strong values, resulting from its formative purpose, reflexivity, responsibility, confidentiality and adaptability. These are the basics of the quality culture that has been developed at UNIL and one of the great strengths and particularities of the process. They have been reasserted in the directive 3.22 about the students evaluation of teaching (SET).
The student evaluation of teaching appears in the Directives:
3.22 in short:
The directive applies to Bachelor and Master teachings as well as doctoral training, except for the Medicine School’s teachings. Teachers are responsible for the SET organisation, which means, its form, the way it is going to be communicated to the students as well as the reading, understanding, reflexion on the results and the feedback to the students. The CSE make some evaluation tools available to the teachers, collect and handle the data and accompany the teachers throughout the process.
Every teaching has to be evaluated at least once in a time frame of 3 years. Faculties are responsible for observing this periodicity. Although the results must be communicated to the students, the way this can be done is freely chosen by the teacher. When the average of agreement is lower than 60%, a pedagogical advisor gets in touch with the teacher in order to discuss the potential problematics. Students can ask the faculty for an evaluation of teaching, if they judge that there is a pedagogical problem in a teaching they regularly follow.
Discussing about the results of the students evaluation of teaching as well as giving feedback to the students are part of the Directives about the teaching section of the activity report or the academic portfolio:
