In parallel to the thesis itself, the MD-PhD student must acquire a total of 12 credits by the end of the doctorate. To do so, the student can follow seminars and conferences and participate in national and international scientific events for which the Doctoral School attributes ECTS credits and which constitute an integral part of the Doctoral Program. The conditions for the credit attribution are described in the “Directives pour le Doctorat en médecine et ès sciences (MD-PhD) effectué à la Faculté de biologie et de médecine”.
During the first year of the thesis, a minimum of 4 ECTS credits must be obtained. Two of these 4 credits should be obtained by participating in tutorials and the remaining 2 can be acquired by taking part in seminars, postgraduate courses or conferences. Certificates of participation must be sent to the Doctoral School (program.ls@unil.ch) by the end of the first year.
During the remaining years of the thesis, a minimum of 8 ECTS credits must be obtained by taking part in seminars, postgraduate courses and conferences. Certificates of participation must be sent to the Doctoral School (program.ls@unil.ch) 4 weeks before submitting the thesis at the latest.
Students who conduct their research abroad must identify courses and scientific events at their host institution that are equivalent to those that carry the necessary credits at home. The selected courses/events must be validated by the FBM Doctoral School.
12 ECTS credits should be obtained by the end of the MD-PhD doctoral studies.
The documents for validation of courses can be forwarded to the FBM Doctoral School at any time during the thesis, but no later than 4 weeks prior to the date of the private defence (the same deadline applies for the request of the ECTS Certificate).
--> Forward all the documents by postal mail to the FBM Doctoral School.
