Blood pressure and heart rate measurement
This method allows for long term direct arterial blood pressure measurement in the awake, conscious animal after surgery.
A catheter is placed into the carotid artery of the anesthetized mice. The blood pressure is continuously or discontinuously recorded after a one week recovery period (protocol on demand).Signal are acquired and analysed with Ponemah software (Data Science International; St Paul, MN, USA).
Changes in blood pressure and activity can be followed for longer time periods (some days to some months) without disturbing animals. Effects of acute or chronic drugs can be measured with continues or intermitent recordings.
