Recession Maps

The CREA Recession Maps track the evolution of recession probabilities in the 26 Swiss cantons over a given period.

The entries in parenthesis on the color bar for the recession probabilities indicate the number of cantons
in the corresponding bin.

The CREA Recession Maps are created from recession probabilities (in percent) at cantonal level calculated from a Markov-switching model with heterogeneous recessions and expansions. The intensity of recession in a given canton is represented by different colors ranging from dark green to red. Dark green on the map indicates a very low probability of recession (i.e. below 10%), while red indicates a very high probability of recession (i.e. above 90%). The user can select different periods during which the evolution of recession probabilities in the 26 Swiss cantons is shown on the map.

Method

A short description of the methodology used to estimate recession probabilities at the cantonal level is available here.
