XXVIII Vis Moot - 2020/2021

28th Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot

The Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot is one of the most prestigious international moot court competitions for law students. Taking place annually in Vienna since 1994, it gathers more than 3000 students, practitioners and academics with an objective of fostering the study of the international commercial law and arbitration.

For the 14th consecutive time, the University of Lausanne presented a team to the Vis Moot and was represented by:

David Aigner, Sami Salihu, Irem Okur, Hanna Birbaum and Ilana Halpérin.

This year, Jonas Zaugg coached under the supervision of Professor Andrea Bonomi.

The team benefits as well from the support and guidance of

Sergii Drug, Professor Eva Lein and Professor Karen Druckman.

The Problem of the XXVIII Moot regards the complex issue of the joinder of third parties to arbitral proceedings, as well as whether the arbitration agreement and applicable Swiss Rules allowed for holding hearings remotely in times of COVID. The problem also deals with the applicability of the CISG to a mixed contract providing for the sale and transfer of IP relating to viral vectors for the development of vaccines treating respiratory diseases (such as COVID).

The Moot problem can be accessed on the Moot website.
