XXIX Vis Moot - 2021/2022

29th Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot

The Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot is one of the most prestigious international moot court competitions for law students. Taking place annually in Vienna since 1994, it gathers more than 3000 students, practitioners and academics with an objective of fostering the study of the international commercial law and arbitration.

For the 15th consecutive time, the University of Lausanne presented a team to the Vis Moot and was represented by:

Rebecca Harquet, Amir Shafie, Florian Moslehner, Philippine Chapot, Léa Link and Stéphanie Vanden Berghe.

This year, Jonas Zaugg will coach under the supervision of Professor Andrea Bonomi.

The team benefits as well from the support and guidance of

Sergii Drug, Professor Eva Lein and Professor Karen Druckman.

The Problem of the XXIX Moot regards the complex issue of the law applicable to the conclusion of an arbitration agreement, as well as whether the CISG might be applicable to such a question. The problem also deals with a practice of contract conclusion between two negotiators, and whether that practice has led to a valid contract in their new positions. Additionally, the problem involves the perennially tricky issue of the valid incorporation of standard terms into the contract.

The Moot problem can be accessed on the Moot website.
