Vienna Finals

Team Lausanne excels at Online Vis Moot Finals

Once again, the University of Lausanne has shown its excellency at the Finals of the XVII Vis Moot, held online this year. After challenging rounds against the University of Mannheim, Gujarat University, the Centre for Transnational Legal Studies (London) and the Russian State University of Justice (Kazan Branch), the Lausanne Team qualified for the rounds of 64 for the third time in its history (after 2014 and 2018)! Anaïs Essinger and Manon Schläpfer proudly represented Lausanne against the University of Hamburg, yet were not chosen to proceed. Hamburg ended up losing in the Semi-Finals against this year's winners of the Vis Moot Final, the West Bengal University of Juridical Science. See the announcement online.

This year's biggest surprise came at the live-streamed Awards Ceremony: Lausanne brought home its very first Honorable Mention for the Martin Domke Award - Best Individual Oralist thanks to Enzo Bastian's stellar performance! This award is given only to the top 10% of all speaker. See the video below.

Despite the numerous technical hurdles of hosting such a competition online, the challenging conditions of training rounds behind a computer screen and the lack of any kind of parties, Anaïs Essinger, Manon Schläpfer, Enzo Bastian and Claudio Colombi have exceeded all expectations.

This concludes the journey of the Vis Moot Team Lausanne for the XXVII Willem C. Vis Moot! The Team would like to thank the Directors of the Moot for successfully achieving the complete transformation of the Moot this year in order to host the Finals online! Congratulations also to all other Swiss teams and mooties! The Team also gives thanks to its sponsors, Walder Wyss and Homburger, for their generous support.
