Taking part in a questionnaire
Concretely, how can I take part in a questionnaire?
Generally speaking, your teacher will warn you about the evaluation of their teaching. Concerning an online survey, you will receive an email on your institutional email address from the CSE with a link that will bring you to the questionnaire. You will be able to fill in the questionnaire directly online, with a smartphone or a computer. If you don’t have an electronic device, you’ll have a few days to fill in the questionnaire. Don’t forget to click on “submit” at the end of the survey.
I cannot have access to the questionnaire when clicking on the link, what can I do?
First of all, try to change the browser you’re using and copy and paste the link. If it still doesn’t work, it can be because of “cookies”. You can then try to clear the cache. If despite everything, you can still not access to the survey, please contact us by email and we will gladly help you!
What does assure me that my answers are anonymous when I fill in a questionnaire online?
The evaluation team of the CSE undertake and manage the online evaluation on the teachers' request. It means that once the teacher gives the email addresses (exported from Moodle, or from the course registration list, etc.) to the CSE, they don’t have any access to neither the questionnaire nor the answers before receiving the results report. Furthermore, the reminders are automatically generated. Most importantly, when you click on “submit”, the link between your email address and your answers are automatically deleted. There is then no possibility to know who answered what, including the members of the CSE! Finally, all the data are stocked on a secure server to which, just a few members of the CSE have access.
Who does receive my questionnaire when I press on submit?
The evaluation team of the CSE. Only its members have access to your answers and are bounded by the professional confidentiality.
I mixed up questionnaires / teachers while filling in the online survey. What can I do?
Unfortunately, there’s not much to do. Because of the anonymity of the answers, there is no possibility for the evaluation team to identify which one are yours and to delete them. Contact us even so, to enable us to let the teacher know.
How to fill in a questionnaire?
Are there different questionnaires available?
Yes, according to the teaching type and the methods used during class. Questions can then be different from one questionnaire to another. It is your teacher who’s in charge of choosing the one that suits best in accordance with the context.
What is a questionnaire constituted of?
Generally speaking, a questionnaire has: a few closed questions (tick box) about the organisation of the teaching, its presentation, your global appreciation and some spaces for your comments.
Can I write freely?
- Insults and inappropriate comments will be deleted
- Only about the teaching and not the teacher
- To make your comments useful, bear in mind to formulate constructive criticism
The results processing
How are the results processing by the CSE?
The members of the evaluation team receive all the data, format them and anonymise every comment. When a summary is written, all your comments are analysed and cross reference with the answers to closed questions in order to highlight the strong points and the improvement possibilities of the teaching.
Who does read my comments?
The evaluation team members only. Your comments are anonymised if necessary (comments about the teacher and not the teaching, potential inappropriate comments and/or insults) before being handed over to your teacher.
Report given to your teacher
What do teachers receive precisely?
Every teacher receives a report with:
- All the typed comments (apart from the insulting and inappropriate ones and the ones about the teacher and not the teaching)
- An histogram showing the distribution of the answers to closed-ended questions
- A table of the numbers and percentages regarding the answers to the closed-ended questions
- In some cases, a summary of the results (document written by the CSE that highlights strong points, improvement possibilities and offers an action plan based on the answers to the closed questions and the comments)
Your teachers receive everything you would like to make them know about their teaching.
For evaluations using other tools than questionnaires, your teacher will receive a report of the results during an appointment with a pedagogical advisor. This report contains a thematic summary of what was said during the focus group or the photo-expression session as well as proposals for actions that will be discussed with your teacher.
How can this report be used by teachers?
First of all, to think of their methods and improve their teaching, by understanding better what works and what needs to be improved. In the long term, it might be useful for a promotion or a contract renewal, for example to show their teaching skills. It could also be shown sometimes (in full or in part), as a feedback.
Feedback from the teacher to the students
How can I get feedback?
Teachers are bound to give feedback to their students. However, the way it is done is freely chosen by the teacher. The feedback might also be given to the next students.
How can I make sure that my comments will be taken into account?
Some of your requests might not be taken into account for pedagogical reasons that your teacher will explain. Indeed, the results have to be discussed in the activity reports, for a promotion, a contract renewal, etc. (Directive 3.22 about the SET)
