Online courses and MOOCs

General policy

In addition to the courses offered by the QB program, it is possible to count some credits for attending online courses or MOOCs provided the following conditions are met:

  1. the specific course is of sufficient quality and level, and there is no equivalent alternative on campus. Courses are thus vetted for quality by the QB program director. An indicative list of vetted courses is provided below.
  2. there is a clear added value for your PhD. 
  3. you obtain a written confirmation with your name to demonstrate that you successfully passed the course

Furthermore, there is a cap on the number of ECTS that can be obtained through online courses and MOOCs. In standard cases, this cap is at 2 ECTS in total, but there are ongoing discussions about raising it in special circumstances (such as the current pandemic).

Thus, before enrolling, make sure that 1 and 2 are fulfilled. For 2, the easiest way is to seek a written endorsement by your PhD supervisor (an email suffices).
