Ecology & Evolution
Registration in the CUSO program Ecology & Evolution (CUSO means Conférence universitaire de Suisse occidentale)
- To register in the study program Ecology and Evolution, you have first to do a request via the CUSO on-line form to become a member: click here.
If you do not yet have a UNIL email address, in addition to the CUSO on-line form, please send an e-mail indicating that your registration at UNIL is in progress to ecology-evolution@cuso.ch with a copy to your thesis supervisor. - The CUSO is the institution that organises a course book in the field of Ecology & Evolution
- Once they confirm you are a member, please forward us their answer to : Livia Ioni, Thesis Office, Doctoral School FBM, UNIL-Sorge, 1015 Lausanne, phdthesis@unil.ch.
In parallel, register on-line via the UNIL admission center as UNIL PhD student, as described on our website.
1. 12 ECTS credits should be obtained by the end of the PhD doctoral studies.
2. At the end of the first year, at least 4 ECTS credits must have been obtained. Out of which 2:
- in Topic Groups of the Ecology and Evolution Department (considered as equivalent to tutorials by the FBM Doctoral School: click here). Or:
- in tutorials organized by the FBM Doctoral School (https://www.unil.ch/ecoledoctoralefbm/phdlifesciences).
3. Out of the 12 ECTS, at least 6 ECTS credits need to be from activities organized by the Ecology and Evolution doctoral program (Activities are listed on the website).
- All the activities are divided into 3 categories. You need min. 2 ECTS in each category:
- K (knowledge): seminars, workshops, congresses..
- M (method): workshops and courses on specific methods, scientific exchanges to learn new methods..
- S (skill): scientific writing, scientific presentation, developing a grant proposal.
- Travels, meal and accommodation are reimbursed by the CUSO (see conditions & address to send your requests on the website)
4. Out of the 12 ECTS, 1 ECTS has to be obtained:
- Via an oral presentation of your own research project in another affiliated university
- NO reimbursement
5. The rest of the ECTS may be obtained
- With other CUSO courses (including DPEE CUSO courses)
- National/international congresses, symposium, meetings related to your thesis (recommended : one a year)
- Specific doctoral courses, workshops related to your thesis
- Seminar series
- NO reimbursement

HOW TO VALIDATE CREDITS?
- For ALL the courses, conferences, seminars, meetings and workshops forward us the Participations Forms (special documents available below) signed by your thesis director and yourself; attach all the requested documents.
- Forward the forms to your program coordinator for the ECTS equivalence to Livia Ioni, Coordinator of the PhD program in Ecology & Evolution, Doctoral School FBM, Amphipôle Building, Office 324, UNIL-Sorge, 1015 Lausanne
