Financing

Tuitions fees are very low (CHF 280 for the first semester + CHF 80 for each additional semester).

There are three main ways of financing the doctorate:

  • Assistantships
  • SNSF Scholarships
  • Jobs/Internships

Assistantships and SNSF scholarships are the most recommended form of funding for PhD students. The initial work contract usually last for one year, and can be extended to a total of five years.

PhD studies are not compatible with a full-time job, unless part of the worktime can be devoted to research. The job must be flexible in terms of working hours to allow completing the course work and participate in the other required programme activities.
