Applications

Applications are welcome throughout the year but applicants must secure the support of a supervisor prior to submitting their application file. Any application that does not mention a professor who has given his full consent upon your supervision will be considered null and void. The list of professors can be found here.
Applicants must have an MSc degree in Information Systems or Computer Science or an equivalent degree (with a minor in Information Systems / min. 30 ECTS). Candidates admitted to the program will start their Ph.D. studies at the earliest possible semester following their application. The detailed application procedure can be found here.

The regulations of the Doctoral School and the PhD in Information Systems, including details on the selection process can be found here.

The candidates must have a minimum of 30 ECTS of coursework related to IS or CS. The credits must be evident from the exam transcripts. Here you can see a table listing the typical course topics which are recognized by our program. We encourage applicants to highlight their prior knowledge in their cover letter.

If an applicant has less than 30 ECTS of courses equivalent to CS or IS, they will be required to follow an upgrade program to reach the 30 ECTS. This upgrade program must be completed in parallel to the first stage of their PhD studies.

The application file is composed of the following documents. Incomplete files will not be considered.

  • a CV (in English)

  • a cover letter (in English)

  • Bachelor and Master transcript of grades (translated if not in English or French)

  • at least one letter of reference (from referees with institutional email addresses only)

GRE and English tests are not required but English proficiency is necessary to succeed in the program. Having basic knowledge of French is also useful for a smoother acculturation in Lausanne.
