Founded in 2018, the Interdisciplinary Centre for Mountain Research (CIRM) is one of the four strategic interdisciplinary centres at the University of Lausanne (UNIL). It focuses on three key objectives:
- Building a network of UNIL experts focusing on sustainability challenges in mountain regions;
- Advancing research on sustainability issues in mountain areas through interdisciplinary approaches (integrating expertise from various disciplines) and transdisciplinary approaches (co-creating knowledge with local stakeholders, particularly through participatory science), drawing on the diverse expertise of its members;
- Sharing the knowledge generated by University of Lausanne researchers with the populations of the affected mountain regions.
CIRM currently connects over 100 UNIL researchers and collaborates with around 30 partner institutions both in Switzerland and internationally. The network of researchers is coordinated by the CIRM team, based at the UNIL campus in Sion.
