Brief presentation

Created in 2018 at the University of Lausanne, the Interdisciplinary Centre for Mountain Research (CIRM) aims to strengthen knowledge on mountains specific issues such as climate change, land planning or economic vulnerability in a changing context. The Centre supports approaches from both natural and social sciences by promoting interdisciplinary research projects and scientific events.

Aims

The Centre aims at:

  • promoting research on mountains within the community of researchers at the University of Lausanne
  • promoting inter- and transdisciplinary research on mountains at the University of Lausanne
  • developing outreach activities on moutains in particular in two areas of interest Vaud and Valais Alps.

Members and partners

CIRM fosters synergies among researchers coming from 5 different Faculties at the University of Lausanne and cooperates with institutions  – both at regional and international level – that focus on mountain research and dissemination in its areas of interest.

Organisation

The Centre is steered by a Strategic Committee including delegates from the University and from the mountain areas of interest. It is managed by a team located at the UNIL site in Sion, Valais.
