Magalie obtained her Master's degree in Medical Biology at the University of Lausanne in the year 2024.  After completing her Master's thesis in Petr Broz's lab, she joined the lab in 2024 as a technician. 

Jakub is protein biochemist. He obtained his Ph.D. from Charles University in Prague, Czechia. He studied the roles of the rhomboid intramembrane proteases in bacteria. After one-year internship in the structural parasitology lab, he moved in Lausanne in 2021 to join the group of Petr Broz. Jakub has been exploring the mechanisms of pathogen recognition by human guanylate-binding proteins, during pro-inflammatory cell death called pyroptosis.

Elliott obtained his bachelor's degree in biochemistry from the University of Bristol, UK in 2015. He then moved to the Francis Crick Institute, London for his PhD under the supervision of Maximiliano Gutierrez studying cell-autonomous immunity to Mycobacterium tuberculosis. He joined our lab in 2021 to study mechanisms of activation of inflammatory cell death.

Alexandra Boegli has obtained her Masters diploma in molecular biology with a major in infection biology from the University of Basel in 2020, where she studied immunomodulation by bacterial effector proteins. She joined the Broz lab in 2020 for her PhD studies, investigating inflammasome activation by Gram-positive bacterial pathogens such as Listeria monocytogenes and Staphylococcus aureus.

Tabea obtained her Master’s degree in “Molecular Mechanisms of Disease” from the Radboud University, NL in 2022. Afterwards she started her PhD in the Broz lab and the Jenal lab (Biozentrum, University Basel, CH) to study the innate immune response of a human lung organoid infection model. The project is part of the NCCR AntiResist.

Nino obtained his Master's degree from the University of Tokyo and PhD degree in Plant Epigenetics from the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University (OIST) in Japan. Then, he joined Petr Broz' laboratory in 2021 to investigate the SARM1-dependent cell death pathway. His main research topic is eukaryotic innate immunity and cell death. He loves to play badminton year-round and snowboarding in winter.   

Ella received her PhD from the University of California, Berkeley where she studied how herpesviruses manipulate host gene expression with Dr. Britt Glaunsinger. She started her postdoc in the Broz lab in 2021 to investigate the interplay of innate immunology and viral infection.

Louise earned her bachelor’s degree in biomedical sciences from KU Leuven in Belgium, then pursued specialised studies in cancer and immunology at UNIL. After her master's project in Petr Broz’s lab, she joined the team as a doctoral student in 2024 to delve deeper into ongoing research on NLR activation and gasdermin pore formation.

Saray Ramos Pérez obtained her degree in Biology from the University of Barcelona (2016). Next, she completed her Master of Science in Medical Biology at the University of Lausanne (2019). In 2020, she joined our lab to pursue her PhD and explore the mechanisms of plasma membrane rupture during pyroptosis and ferroptosis.

Philipp holds a Master degree in Molecular Biotechnology, as well as a Bachelor degree in Mathematics, which he obtained from the University of Heidelberg in 2017. For his PhD, he joined the lab of Nassos Typas at EMBL to investigate the host-pathogen interactions during Salmonella infection. Subsequently, he worked in the Digital Biomarker department at Roche to conclude an MBA degree with the Collège des Ingénieurs in Paris and Munich. In 2022, Philipp joined the lab of Petr Broz to unravel the interactions of co-infecting viral and bacterial pathogens, as well as their impact on the host innate immune response.
