Mobility

IDHEAP enthusiastically encourages its Master's students to experience a university exchange for a semester. It's a quality that IDHEAP is keen to nurture: curiosity about an academic culture different from one's own.

A mobility stay not only enables you to acquire language skills and broaden your range of scientific knowledge, but also to discover other academic paradigms. What's more, this experience is also an immersion in a foreign culture that will contribute to enriching your international research network.

Our Institute offers a wide range of destinations to suit your training. By opting for student mobility, you'll be able to enrich your curriculum with teaching that differs from that of our Faculty, enabling you to develop your analytical and critical skills. What's more, it will help you stand out from the crowd in your future job search, thanks to your ability to adapt.

Beyond knowledge, the human side is also an important aspect of this stay. It will be an opportunity to create unforgettable friendships and experiences, and to develop a capacity for integration far removed from your everyday life.

Considering all these advantages, we can only encourage you in your university exchange project. Our mobility advisor is at your disposal to help you make the right choice.

General information

Choosing your destination

The choice of destination is very important. There are many factors to take into account, and it may be necessary to devote some time to this stage. Find out early enough, ask the mobility advisor, your teachers or other students for advice, and don't stop at the most obvious choices and perceptions.

IDHEAP has SEMP agreements with the universities of Hamburg, Potsdam, Tor Vergata and Aix Marseille. These universities offer courses related to your PMP Master's program.
You'll find all the destinations on offer, with detailed information to help you make your choice, in our agreements database.

Universities with SEMP agreements - Master PMP

Here is our selection of destinations linked to the Master PMP course that we are pleased to offer you

When and for how long

The mobility semester is planned in the 2nd year of orientation during the autumn semester.

You will need to obtain between 24 and 30 ECTS at Master's level, which are relevant to your PMP Master's program.

Languages

The language of the host university is a selection criterion when choosing your destination. You must fulfill the required language credits, i.e. 20 ECTS in a national language other than that of your university of registration, or in English (under certain conditions).

The preferred language level is B2, or as required by the location. If a certificate is required, prepare for the exam and check dates well in advance.

For the Master PMP SEMP program at the universities of Potsdam, Tor Vergata and Hamburg, no official certificate (IELTS or TOEFL) is required. However, a certificate from the UNIL language center is recommended.

Application procedures and deadlines

An exchange agreement is a contract between UNIL and a partner university, defining the framework for exchanges of students, teaching staff and administrative and technical personnel. There are different types of exchange agreement, each operating in a different way.

You will find practical information in this short guide to mobility.

SEMP agreements

The SEMP program, for “Swiss-European Mobility Program”, replaces the Erasmus+ program for Swiss universities following the outcome of the February 2014 vote. The program is based on the principles of the Erasmus agreements and, in practice, the opportunities offered to students at Swiss universities are very similar to those available to European students.

SEMP agreements are numerous and are often the most effective way of achieving a mobility stay, although places are limited (or restricted to certain faculties and/or disciplines).

The deadline for applications is February 20.

Faculty agreements

Faculty agreements are generally created by a faculty member for a given discipline. Access to teaching in disciplines not covered by the agreement may be limited. They may involve destinations in Europe or elsewhere. Places are limited for the whole Faculty.

The deadline for applications is February 20.

General agreements

General agreements are created by the UNIL Management. As their name suggests, they are open to students from all faculties and, in principle, allow all disciplines to be studied. However, you need to check that your discipline is taught locally: the fact that the agreement is open to you does not necessarily mean that your discipline is available.

As general agreements are open to all UNIL students, and the number of places is limited, there is usually considerable competition for these agreements. Applications must be detailed and made with particular care to increase your chances of obtaining a place. In addition, we strongly advise you to select several destinations.

The deadline for applications is December 1.

Your application must include the following items and be submitted to the secretary's office by the deadline :

Blended Intensive Programmes (BIP) - Short-term mobility CIVIS

Blended Intensives Programmes (BIPs) are a new mobility format available to all UNIL students. Each BIP combines online teaching with a short five-day period of physical mobility (similar to a summer or winter school) at another CIVIS university with students from other Alliance universities.

Detailed information on the CIVIS BIPs program can be found on the UNIL International Relations website.

Semp internships

IDHEAP students and graduates can also undertake an internship in another country by receiving a grant under the SEMP program. The internship can be carried out in any country participating in the Erasmus program and must last between 2 and 12 months. It must take place during your studies, in accordance with the conditions in force.

There is no centralized platform for SEMP internship offers. It's up to you to find an internship position, either by responding to an offer published by the company itself, or by applying spontaneously as an intern. The next step is to draw up an internship agreement between you, the host company or institution and IDHEAP. You'll find all the information you need on the UNIL International Relations page.

Studying at IDHEAP

We look forward to welcoming you to our campus, nestled on the shores of Lake Geneva. As part of our exchange agreements, you have the opportunity to attend courses in the Master PMP program offered by the Swiss Graduate School of Public Administration - IDHEAP.

The UNIL International Relations Service database will tell you whether your home university is a partner of Unil.

If your university is a partner of UNIL, apply and validate your Learning agreement to the «Study Abroad Office» or "International Relations Office» of your home university.

Our courses are aimed at Master’s level students. Below is a list of our courses in English.

To acquire the ECTS credits associated with the disciplines studied, PMP Master’s students registered at the Lausanne site must register for the corresponding exams and teachings, respecting the deadlines and procedures.

Examination sessions

Exams are taken in person. Exchange students must take their exams during official examination sessions under the same conditions as students with regular status.

Non-French-speaking students are allowed to use a paper, non-electronic language dictionary (without any annotation) for their exams.
