Lara Blecher is a member of the New York bar and has spent 23 years as a consultant in business and human rights. After completing her master's degree at Cornell University where she wrote her thesis on corporate codes of conduct, Lara Blecher worked at a social auditing firm inspecting work place conditions at factories around the world. She then worked for a CSR consultancy before spending two years as a Research Fellow in business and human rights at the British Institute of International and Comparative Law (BIICL). One of her projects at BIICL was to examine the link between climate change and forced migration. Since her time at BIICL, Lara Blecher has worked with investors on a range of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) issues. Most recently, she has published two reports focusing on why investors should be concerned about poor human rights conditions in the mining sector. She is also completing a PhD in law at University College London on how the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights deal with the phenomenon of privatisation.
