DESCRIPTION In business practice, arbitration is becoming increasingly important as an alternative means of dispute resolution. Switzerland has played a pioneering role in arbitration, but there are other popular arbitration centres such as Hong Kong, London, Paris, Singapore and Stockholm. This course takes a comparative and practice-oriented approach. With a main focus on international commercial arbitration, it aims to set out the legal framework for arbitration, to explain its advantages and risks in practice and to stimulate the interest in dispute resolution mechanisms among the future generation of lawyers. The course covers all stages of arbitration, from negotiation and the drafting of arbitration clauses to the enforcement of arbitral awards, as well as the interface between arbitration, international litigation and private international law.
