BlueMount – A Bridge Between Science and Stakeholders for Sustainable Management of Mountain Environments
Sustainable management of mountain regions and their natural resources relies on close collaboration among stakeholders—practitioners, managers, public administrations—and scientific experts. Such collaboration requires coordination that considers the timelines, methods, and constraints of each party, as well as the urgency imposed by environmental changes in mountain areas and their socio-economic consequences.
The BlueMount observatory for the Valais and Vaud mountain environments aims to:
- Contribute to the sustainable management of mountain regions by providing quantitative indicators of change that can be utilized by municipal and cantonal administrations responsible for natural resource management.
- Promote interdisciplinary research essential for guiding environmental public policies through centralized access to existing long-term observations in the mountain regions of Vaud and Valais.
- Facilitate dialogue between interdisciplinary science and public administrations in mountain areas by establishing a think tank—a hub for idea generation, co-creation of knowledge, and exchanges between practitioners, managers, public administrators, and scientific experts
