Knowledge & techniques

Français | English

The collective Knowledge and Technics is interested in the production, government and effects of knowledge and know-how (scientific, technical, expert, lay, indigenous, local...) related to the respective research themes of its members: cities & urbanization, architectures & buildings, cultural & creative industries, biodiversities, animals in the city, plants, military & warlike facts, mobilities, languages...

It thus favours entries such as :

  • The concept of "situated knowledge", to grasp the effects of the position and status (professional, expert, corporate, lay, etc.) of those who produce knowledge and know-how (scientists, experts, activists, artists, content producers, journalists, social groups, residents, etc.) and the contexts in which knowledge is produced (particularly epistemic cultures);
  • Post- and de-colonial approaches, political ecology, critical history, critical geography, science and technology studies, cultural studies and ecofeminism to address the power relations that run through the production, circulation, computation and mobilization of knowledge. Particular attention is paid to processes of knowledge legitimization and invisibilization, and to the place of knowledge in practices of governmentality;
  • Non-representational approaches or new materialisms to identify what these forms of knowledge and know-how produce in terms of materiality and spatiality (spaces, environments, territories, objects, etc.).

Participants in the Knowledge and Techniques collective meet face-to-face on Thursdays every two weeks (with the possibility of participating remotely on request) for three types of activities:

  • Guest speaker (presentation and discussion by a group member) followed by discussion (based on a text provided in advance),
  • Formal presentation by a member followed by discussion,
  • Informal exchanges on members' activities, projects and readings.
