Research interest

My main research interest is to identify novel therapies for brain metastasis by targeting the tumor microenvironment. In particular, my project focuses on exploring how to modulate the tumor vasculature to boost immune cell infiltration.

Background

I performed a BSc degree in Biotechnology at the University of Salamanca, Spain, followed by a MSc degree in Molecular Biomedicine in the Pompeu Fabra University, Barcelona, Spain. I obtained my PhD in the CNIO, Madrid, Spain under the supervision of Prof. Maria Blasco studying telomeres in glioblastoma. In 2019, I joined the Joyce Lab as a postdoctoral researcher.

Research interest

I am currently exploring the involvement of the CNS lymphatic system in brain tumors.

Background

I did my PhD research in Neuroimmunology in the lab of Prof. Marco Prinz, University Medical Center of Freiburg, Germany and became very interested in understanding the complexity of immune cells in the central nervous system (CNS) and how they can be modulated to treat brain pathologies, which naturally led me to the Joyce Lab for my postdoc.

Research interest

My interest is in working in an academic lab that has close links with the clinic, and in the field that aims to develop treatments for cancer patients.

Background

I hold a BSc in Biology and a Master's in Biopharmaceutical Sciences from the University of Lisbon, Portugal. I joined Joyce Lab in 2022, as a research technician, to support fellow lab member Marta Jordao's project.

Research interest

After medical studies at the University of Lausanne, I started an MD-PhD thesis in the laboratory of Pr I. Stamenkovic working on the interaction between the tumour microenvironment and the immune system in lung cancer.

I am particularly interested in certain stem cells constituting the supporting tissue, which are subverted by the presence of the tumour, because they are capable of blocking immune defences and thus promoting tumour growth. My research is supported by a grant from the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) and the Swiss Cancer League.

Background

I obtained my MD-PhD title in 2017, rewarded with a faculty award for my research work. I then began my clinical training at the Lausanne University Hospital, in the Department of internal medicine, while maintaining a 25% basic research activity, supported by an FBM grant for MD-PhD clinicians followed by a "Junior Clinical Scientist" grant from the Leenaards Foundation. I continued my clinical training in oncology from 2020 onwards, with the desire to maintain a parallel research activity to offer patients translational, personalised medicine at the cutting edge of current developments in immunotherapy.

Research interest

During my PhD in the Joyce Lab, I will interrogate the mechanisms of immune suppression in brain metastasis with a focus on T cells.

Background

I studied biotechnology during my bachelor's degree at the University of Applied Sciences Aachen, Germany, and performed my bachelor's thesis at the University of Bonn, where I focused on immunology. I continued my studies at the University of Bonn to complete my Master's in Immunology. During my master's thesis, I focused on investigating the immune-modulatory role of platelets.

CONTACT ME

Research interest

I am a PhD student in the Joyce Lab, and am exploring the tumor immune microenvironmental landscape in human brain malignancies, encompassing low- and high-grade gliomas as well as brain metastatic disease. The approaches I am taking include immunofluorescence staining, for spatial characterization of the immune landscape, as well as RNA sequencing analysis and functional ex vivo assays of the different immune populations.

Background

I obtained my Medical Degree, after completing my Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Medicine at the Radboud University, Nijmegen, Netherlands

I am currently exploring the targeting of different communication mechanisms between brain metastasis and the tumor microenvironment.

Background

I received my PhD in "Experimental Medicine and Medical Biotechnologies" at the University of Milan and Humanitas Research Hospital, Italy, investigating chemokine receptors involved in the anti-metastatic activity exerted by neutrophils.

Research interest

During my PhD in the Joyce Lab, I aim to learn about immunology and cancer, two fields about which I am passionate. Specifically, I am interested in studying the relationship between immunity and angiogenesis in brain metastasis.

Background

I obtained my BSc in Biomedical Sciences at University of Barcelona, Spain, and I completed my studies with an MSc in Immunology at Trinity College, Dublin, Ireland.

Research interest

My research in the Joyce Lab centers on how the wound healing processes of the brain respond to multiple anti-glioblastoma treatments, and how these reactions can ultimately modulate cancer recurrence. My work focuses on the interactions between many of the cell types within the complex tumor microenvironment. To address this complexity, I developed novel methods of high-dimensional imaging that profile how the spatial organization of tumors change in response to treatment.

Background

I am originally from the UK and US, and studied biology and genetics at the University of Oregon, USA. I received a PhD in Cancer Biology from Oregon Health & Science University with a focus on systems biology and bioengineering.

CONTACT ME

Research interest

My research in the Joyce Lab focuses on understanding the role that T-lymphocytes play in brain tumors with the ultimate goal of therapeutically improving their anti-tumor function.

Background

I hold a BSc and a MSc in Molecular Medicine from the University of Freiburg (Germany) with a focus on molecular and cellular oncology. I recently obtained my PhD in Cancer and Immunology in the Joyce Lab under the supervision of Pr Johanna Joyce working on understanding the role of T cells in brain.
