How to apply?

All the steps to prepare your application for an exchange are explained below and, in the pages dedicated to each exchange agreement (UNIL General Agreements, SEMP, Faculty Agreements, CIVIS, QTEM Program, Swiss Mobility).

1. General information for your application for an exchange

Am I eligible?
Please consult our general and academic conditions.

When can I apply?
Bachelor: in 2nd year of Bachelor
Master: during the 1st Semester of the Master's program

When can I go on exchange?
Bachelor: in 3rd year of Bachelor (Fall, Spring or a full-year exchange)
Master: in 2nd year of Master's program (Fall exchange)

2. How to choose a destination for an exchange ?

1. Visit our Intranet > section Destinations 2024-2025
2. Check which destination(s) is/are open for which study program

3. Read our partners' Fact Sheets, as well as testimonials from former exchange students, on our Intranet
4. Check the specific conditions that apply to each exchange agreement: 

  • Language requirements (IELTS, TOEFL, etc.)
  • Grade average requirements
  • Academic calendar
  • Application deadline
  • etc...

 

3. How to prepare a Learning Agreement (LA)?

1. You must complete a Learning Agreement per chosen destination, even if it is provisional at the time of application. It is required for the selection.

2. To select courses, consult the website of each partner university chosen (> lists of courses open to exchange students, official study plans, ...).

  • The credit conversion > ECTS is found in our destination files on our Intranet
  • The selected courses must follow the requirements of your study program
     
  • Bachelor level courses are not allowed at the Master level
     
  • Courses must not have been taken at HEC before
4. How to prepare an application for an exchange ?

5. How do I get the LA signed under the general agreements?

General agreements: signature required
You must have each of your Learning Agreements (LA) signed by your Outgoing Students Advisor, before submitting your application, no later than: see deadline below.

SEMP/CIVIS/Faculty agreements, Swiss mobility, QTEM Program:
LA do not need to be signed by your Outgoing Students Advisor.

6. How do I apply?

Follow the instructions carefully and respect the deadlines for submitting your application, in accordance with the conditions of exchange agreement.

It is advisable to apply well in advance to prevent any issues during the transfer process.
