Dr. Marina Choppin

I am particularly interested in insect societies and their unique features. Trained as an evolutionary biologist, I have specialized in the study of social insects during my Master’s degree. I previously worked with termites, honeybees, and ants, to investigate questions related to social insect division of labor, longevity-fecundity reversal, and ecological strategies.

I joined the group of Prof. Chapuisat as a postdoctoral researcher to study Alpine silver ants which harbor a supergene controlling colony queen number. My research focuses on the evolution, maintenance, and characteristics of alternative social forms. I am combining behavioral observations, experimental manipulations, and omic approaches, to associate phenotypic variation with underlying molecular mechanisms
