Engineers of the World
Ingénieur·e·s du Monde (Engineers of the World) is a student association of EPFL-UNIL. Its objective is to make students aware of being responsible engineers for a fair and sustainable world. This involves informing students about the inequalities in the world, the environmental and ethical problems that exist, and sometimes trying to bring ideas for solutions by collaborating with partners around the world.
We do this in several ways, particularly through internships that we offer to UNIL and EPFL students. The proposed internships are projects of NGOs/associations/companies working on a local scale to improve the quality of life of the population and/or to reduce the environmental impact of existing technologies, outside Switzerland.
Ingénieur·e·s du Monde (IDM) connects UNIL-EPFL students with organisations involved in social sustainability. These internships enable students to use their skills while discovering a new cultural environment and a different day-to-day reality.
- Duration of internship: 2 to 12 months
- Sign the contract with IDM obliging the future intern, on his/her return, to share his/her experience with other students via an internship report, to write a post for social media and to write a one-page report on the technical aspect of the internship
- Contact IDM by email at stages.idm@gmail.com with a CV and a general covering letter explaining why the student wants to apply for an internship with IDM.
- The Internships & Partnerships Department will guide the student towards the internship(s) best suited to his/her profile and will provide contacts of the corresponding partners.
- Once the student has agreed on an internship with one of IDM's partners, the student must sign a contract with IDM asking him/her, at the end of the internship, to come and share his/her experience with other students, to write a post for social media to promote the internship and finally to write a one-page report on the technical aspect of the internship.
- The student must then send this signed contract to the UNIL Social Affairs and Student Mobility Department (SASME) when applying for the SEMP grant.
Please note: Obtaining an internship through IDM does not guarantee obtaining the SEMP scholarship from UNIL. Only UNIL is authorised to award scholarships according to its own criteria and those relating to the SEMP programme.
