An internship can be a decisive element in your CV, as it is often your first professional experience. An internship can give you a realistic insight into the sector or field that interests you. You can identify your strengths, interests and weaknesses, check your motivation and refine your career plan. An internship also gives you the opportunity to compare the theoretical knowledge you have acquired at university with the realities of the professional world, to acquire the skills you still lack or to develop those acquired at university that are immediately transferable to the workplace. Finally, it can help you build up a network of professional contacts.
Internship offers: The Careers Centre gathers internship offers throughout the year, in various sectors of activity, in Switzerland and abroad. These offers can also help you find credited internships. The offers are listed in our Moodle page "Centre de carrières", contact our service to receive the key access : centredecarrieres@unil.ch
Internships abroad: as a general rule, an internship abroad involves a certain amount of preparation, administrative procedures and a financial cost that must be taken into account: residence permit, work permit, insurance, finding accommodation, etc. Find out well in advance (3 to 6 months) about the necessary steps, the documents required and the deadlines. As a UNIL student, you may be able to do an internship in a company in Europe and receive a grant. More information on this page.
Internship agreement for non-curricular internships: an agreement can be similar to an employment contract, signed by three parties who have a contractual relationship with each other: the company, the intern and the University. Such an agreement may be required by companies based abroad, particularly in France. In other countries, the agreement has no legal value, and companies often draw up a standard employment contract with the trainee. If the internship is not an integral part of your training programme download and complete the internship agreement.
Please complete and sign the internship agreement, together with your future employer, and return the document to us for signature at centredecarrieres@unil.ch.
