Keys to getting started

Welcome days

What are Welcome Days?

Every year, UNIL invites its new Bachelor's students to the Journées d'accueil, which give them an opportunity to meet and exchange ideas and to learn about the university's activities;eacute;es, allowing them to both discover the university and obtain a wealth of useful information to have a good laugh.

These days cover :

  • Presentation of UNIL and the support offered to students
  • Practical information given by each course of study to their students
  • Advice on working methods

Specific welcome sessions are also offered for mobile students and newcomers from abroad who do not speak French (content translated into English).

The Journées dées d’accueil are held every year in the week before the start of the school year.

Date: on 12 and 13 September 2024.

Practical workshops

Kiosks

In order to provide students with the best possible support as they head back to university, kiosks will be set up in the Anthropole (link to Amphipole, Bâtochime), Amphimax, Géopolis and Internef (link to Synathlon) buildings;timents Anthropole (link Amphipole, Bâtochime), Amphimax, Géopolis and Internef (link Synathlon), throughout the first week back.

Managed by more advanced étudiants·e·s, these kiosks provide a relay and a physical point of contact to inform new arrivals on various topics (finding a classroom, finding your way around the campus, using the printers, validating your campuscard, etc.).

To help you integrate

Come along early and break the ice by discussing the course beforehand, or stay later and talk about the course that has just been given over a coffee. You'll find that contacts are generally easy to make.

Learn to work in a group for certain subjects, and form a group yourself.

You'll find spaces conducive to study, high-quality documentation and librarians to welcome you and guide you in your research.

Have your personal coach, someone you trust, for example a more advanced student. This person will give you your survival kit (who does what, where, when and how). Find out more from your university's association, some of which organise sponsorships with more advanced students.

The Uniscope and the Auditory are two indispensable sources of’information. Better still, get involved and take part in the action.

Also follow the UNIL on Facebook to find out more about campus life and chat with advanced students.

You don't have to be an athlete to have fun moving, playing or building muscle. Keeping fit is essential for successful studies and managing stress.

Get involved in university life and meet more advanced students by getting involved in a student association.

Photography club, film club, orchestra, choir, improvisation, fight club, workshops at the Grange de Dorigny, and many other activities are offered on campus.

Throughout the year, various services are available to you on campus.
