Procedure in the event of exposure to biological fluids

In the event of an injury or mucous splash involving blood or another biological fluid, it is important to assess the situation as quickly as possible, so that the appropriate preventive measures can be taken.

Exposure to biological fluids

Exposure to blood or a biological fluid is considered to have occurred in the event of:

  • Cutaneous injury by puncture, cut or bite with contact of blood or biological fluid
  • Projection onto a mucous membrane (eyes, mouth) with blood or another biological fluid
  • Contact with blood or other biological fluid on broken or damaged skin(wound, abrasion, dermatitis)

Remember: contact with biological fluid on healthy skin,  without injury does not present a risk.
