Cafeteria, self-service, restaurant, snack bar: the range of catering facilities on campus is wide and varied. Each catering outlet offers subsidised meals and vegetarian options.
Do you have a suggestion or a question?
Red: self-service (plates and menus)
Orange: cafeteria (snacks, pastries, etc.)
The campus is divided into four catering areas:
The vegetarian days are part of the sustainable food policy of the UNIL and EPFL campuses. Information is available on this page.
Until 2021, the environmental impact of campus caterers has been assessed by Beelong. On this page, you will find explanations on this subject, as well as the final reports on the environmental impact of the food purchased by the caterers.
Since the start of the 2020 academic year, one vegetarian day a week has been introduced in the campus cafeterias.
The Reference framework for a balanced and sustainable food offer at UNIL will apply to all campus caterers from 1 September 2022.
Picnicking is permitted in all self-service restaurants and cafeterias on campus.
Informations on microwaves are grouped together here.
Aperitifs, buffets or other receptions with food and drink that do not involve a caterer or other catering service (baker, pizza delivery service, etc.) may be organised freely on the Dorigny campus. Organisers are, however, required to keep the premises clean and tidy and not to interfere with the University's activities.
Receptions that require specific use of space or the installation of furniture must be requested from the groupe AEGS (Events Reception and Room Management).
Directive 5.2 : Organisation of receptions on University premises
Since 1 April 2009, all food waste produced in UNIL's restaurants and cafeterias has been taken to methanisation plants in the canton of Vaud.

One way of avoiding waste is to serve yourself sensibly (for example: take the "right" amount of bread and/or don't take the salad and/or fruit that goes with the meal if you know you're not going to eat it).

In 2010, a total of 28'950 spoons, forks and knives went missing; in 2011 there were 32'460 missing services.
The cutlery, like the crockery and various other utensils available to the customer, have been purchased by restaurateurs and are therefore their property. Not returning them after use constitutes petty theft.
In 2012, an awareness campaign "Don't keep the cutlery" was set up following this observation.
Information on the Unithèque extension project can be found on the Unibat service page.
On this page, you will find all the points of sale where you can return your reBOX container.
No. On the Dorigny campus, UNIL does not have any sites to rent for catering concepts such as caravans or food trucks.
Currently, you have to ask the staff on site.
On the website énergie-environnement, you will find a series of 14 videos linked to food waste and the impact of our food on energy and the environment. These vignettes not only expose the problems, but also show, with humour, what we can do on a daily basis to improve the situation.
