The Dimensions of the Donut by Kate Raworth

Author : Estefania Amer (CCD, HEC-UNIL)

The Donut is a conceptual framework for guiding humanity towards a future in which the needs of all people are met, while preserving the environmental conditions that have characterised the last few millennia. The Donut consists of an ecological ceiling, defined by nine planar boundaries that must not be crossed if sudden or irreversible environmental changes are to be avoided; We also need a social foundation, made up of twelve dimensions that represent the necessities of life that no one should lack. Between the ecological ceiling and the social foundation lies the space where the needs of all people can be met without compromising the stability and resilience of the Earth system.
