UNIL has joined the European University Alliance CIVIS in 2022.
CIVIS is a multicultural and multilingual European university formed by the alliance of eleven leading higher education institutions across Europe. It is committed to building a unique inter-university campus for more than 500,000 students, teachers, researchers and administrative staff, offering innovative and responsible teaching, research, cultural exchange and civic action across Europe and Africa.
The Alliance aims to tackle the major societal challenges of the 21st century by focusing on five themes:
The Mediterranean and Africa are at the heart of CIVIS' global strategy. In 2022, an ambitious partnership agreement providing a framework for exciting and innovative new collaborations has been signed with six prestigious African universities:
To coordinate the academic strategy on major societal challenges, two experts represent UNIL on the scientific committees of the five hubs.
"My aim, like the mission of CIVIS, is to promote links between people and countries from different cultures. My activities with the CIVIS participants have enabled me to learn a lot and to meet other motivated people with lots of ideas and projects.
"For me, CIVIS is a unique human experience, through the discovery of different cultures and the sharing of our experiences as students, but it has also enabled me to carry out a project on my own and be part of the future of universities in Europe.
"It enabled me to reconnect with external people I knew, and then I met new people, both in the external network, and then internally, it reconnected me too."
