The ColLaboratory – Collaborative and Participatory Action Research Unit

The ColLaboratory is UNIL's Collaborative and Participatory Action Research (RACP) Unit. Our aim is to promote RACP at UNIL and to integrate the needs, skills and knowledge of social actors into research activities in order to foster social innovation through research.

Missions

The ColLaboratory aims to promote collaborative and participatory action research (RACP) through innovative, inclusive approaches with a high social impact. This objective can be broken down into four strategic areas:

  1. Conduct collaborative and participatory action research.
  2. Provide methodological support for RACP at UNIL across all Faculties and departments.
  3. Assist the Rectorate in its RACP strategy and programmes.
  4. Promote RACP at UNIL and in national and international networks.

Action

We are a team committed to a pragmatic approach that focuses on social and environmental transformation through action research. We promote a reflective stance on the impact of our projects and aim for a dialogue-based approach to communicating research results with the partners involved and the general public.

Collaboration

Our participatory research unit aims to build bridges between the academic community and civil society to address societal issues. We believe that research should not be limited to the academic sphere, but should be open to the social and environmental issues that affect our societies.

Participation

We believe that the most innovative solutions emerge from the creativity and critical thinking that flow from interdisciplinary collaboration. By putting forward participatory methods that encourage co-creation, collective intelligence and the pooling of various types of knowledge, we aim to foster the empowerment of the players involved in research projects.

Promotion and support

We facilitate the emergence of a community of practice and support the entire UNIL community in the design and implementation of collaborative and participatory action research projects. We participate in courses, conferences, workshops and networks to promote and convey the practical and strategic challenges of collaborative and participatory action research.

Our activities are organised into three complementary areas:

  • Research
  • Support
  • Promotion
