The Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) is Switzerland's leading institution for promoting scientific research. On behalf of the Swiss Confederation, it promotes basic research in all scientific disciplines, from philosophy and biology to medicine and nanoscience. It also encourages practice-oriented research in certain fields.
The central activity of the SNSF is to assess the scientific quality of project applications submitted by researchers. It has approved 1,8355 new projects worth CHF 7.18 billion between 2017 and 2023.
The SNSF was set up in 1952 as a private foundation to guarantee the necessary independence in the promotion of research. It is committed to maintaining an academic relationship and ensuring that Swiss research has the best possible conditions in which to develop internationally. It also promotes dialogue with society, politics and the economy.

The Agora instrument aims to promote dialogue between scientists and society: it encourages scientists to communicate their current research to a non-scientific audience. Based on interaction and mutual learning, Agora projects enable scientists and the public to meet face-to-face, thereby encouraging exchanges between all participants.
Find out from your faculty contacts whether your faculty offers Agora project follow-up.
A support unit made up of members of UNICOM, the Service de Culture et Médiation Scientifique and the Service de la recherche provides follow-up for Agora projects, enabling targeted support to be provided for the preparation of dossiers and assistance with communication and/or scientific médiation.
This unit meets four times a year (March, June, September, December).
We distinguish between two types of Agora subsidy. It is not compulsory to go through the Agora cell, but we strongly advise you to do so.
Agora projects (CHF 5,000 - 200,000) - Submission deadline: 17 September 2024, 5pm
Agora Rolling Call projects (up to CHF 50,000) - Submission at any time
Pick-up requests and any questions relating to the instrument can be sent to agora@unil.ch.
