Find a job

Identifying your profile

Before you start looking for a job and putting together your application, it is important to identify your skills and inform yourself so that you can make a clear choice. This process will enable you to take stock of your career path, assess your strengths, define your career plan and, ultimately, facilitate your transition to employment.

In order to carry out professional activities, different resources are required. You need knowledge acquired in a particular field, but you also need particular skills, know-how and qualities.

You need to be able to make the transition to employment.

Think about the values that are more or less important to you and that may be linked to the job itself or the working conditions. Do I see myself working in the public or private sector? For a multinational or a small company? Am I looking for a steady job or am I more interested in working on assignment? Am I more comfortable working as part of a team or am I more of a loner? Am I prepared to travel if my job requires it?

Professional objective

The main difficulty encountered by graduates of the engineering professions is that they don't know which job to apply for. This vagueness can be reinforced by the job descriptions, which are often abstract and undefined: coordinator, general secretary, communications manager, research manager, etc. While a generalist education offers a wide variety of careers, it also requires an extra effort on the part of graduates; However, it also requires graduates to make an extra effort to find a concrete and realistic career goal. S'informing yourself is an essential step in defining your project.

Apply

To help you prepare for your transition to employment, read our advice on how to respond to an advert, put together an effective application and go to a job interview on our Moodle space. Before applying for a job, it's important to define your career plan and find out about the sectors or areas of activity that interest you.

In order to land on the right pile, your application file will need to make clear your personal background, your career objective, your motivation for working in the company or institution contacted and the reasons for inviting you to an interview.Your application must include a curriculum vitae (CV), a covering letter, copies of diplomas and work certificates and any references to texts or publications mentioned in your CV or letter.

The purpose of an application file is not to give you access to a job, but to obtain a job interview which serves to confirm your covering letter, CV and certificates. The interview is an opportunity for the employer to be reassured and for you to develop the aspects of your personality or professional experience that you were unable to include in your application due to lack of space.
