Waste management

With a 'population' of around 20,000 people gathered on its Dorigny site during the week, UNIL is a small town that produces a significant amount of waste.

In 2022, more than 660 tonnes of waste of all kinds were sorted by Unibat's teams and sent to the recycling centres concerned: paper, cardboard, glass, aluminium, PET but also nappies, coffee capsules, kitchen waste, etc.

This means that over 54% of our waste is recycled. While Unibat works on a daily basis, these results are also the fruit of your efforts; each cartridge, bottle, cardboard, etc., deposited in the various sorting centres that equip the campus buildings enables us to take another step towards sustainability.

But the green areas and the forest are also concerned by recycling!

In fact, tonnes of green waste come from maintenance work (weeding, pruning, etc.) and the felling of certain trees for safety reasons (checks are carried out regularly to avoid any risk to campus users).

The green waste and wood collected in this way are sent to the composting plant and then shredded to be planted at the foot of the plantations; The wood waste is sawn to be used in construction or to make small improvements, kerbs or street furniture, or chipped into chips to be used for pathways and the Finnish track.

Nothing gets lost, everything gets recycled!
